No. 17 Wiki Linked

Before wiki is started, I got the extra box off my blog. Added my link to the wiki. No trouble with setting up the account. Got interesting when adding the link. Some how got to the top section of a list which wasn't YPL's. Learned how to delete (use backspace, not highlighting.) Would be nice if the wiki would state somehow "entry added." Got link with others of YPL. Figured out the straight line is the key on the keyboard that has two lines, next to the backspace key. Have to shift it. When typed, it is one straight line. It's also a powerful little straight line, without it, the link doesn't form. Such a feeling of power when deleting because if a person wanted to they could delete everyone else's links and there would be nothing to stop them. He-he. That's also what makes wikis problematic. Once signed up, people can add and delete anything they want to. I'm looking at Wikipedia in a different light now.

No. 16 Wiki

The Book Lovers Wiki and the ALA 2006 New Orleans Wiki provided information that people would find interesting and useful. A wiki is an easy-to-edit website that can be built quickly and changed by members of the website. An interesting comment is the one that points out that a wiki's advantage, being able to be added to or changed by any of its users is also its downfall. Some information can be sujective or influenced by opinion. If libraries were to do this, I think people should be able to send their comments in to the library, but the library would need to be the editor (as the one library sytem did.) I can see an advantage to a library for posting community information. If coaches, school systems, community agencies, etc. would post their events, it probably would be popular (if people knew about it.)

No. 15 Continued

After reading the Library 2.0 perspectives, the comment that stuck with me was that 2.0 libraries do not create policies and procedures that impede user's access. Maybe it's time in YPL Libraryland to look at PIN numbers and the signing-up procedure for ILL users. I thought the Library 3.0, or virtual library, was interesting along with the Library 4.o, the knowledge spa. It will be interesting to see what renovations would have to be done to accomodate these libraries.

No. 15 Learning 2.0

Before I make any comments about Learning 2.0, I need to mention an interesting experience that happened regarding this blog. Fiddling around, I learned how to add color print. So I went back and added color, headings, and labels to my entries that didn't have any. In the process, the Flickr picture of the tiger cubs vanished. The generator image and the catalog stayed. Going through the other blogs, someone else mentioned that their Flickr picture vanished. It took all four of us on this one. We were able to find the original picture. Be careful with Flickr, not all the pictures will load as pictures. If they do not load as pictures, an image will not be generated. Which is why there is a big empty box below the image we were finally able to get loaded as a picture. We can not find any way to delete this empty box. There is not a delete button in sight. Which brings up another point. It seems once something is added to the blog, it can't be deleted. We couldn't find a delete button in any of the editing. If anyone knows why a Flickr picture would vanish, please let me know. If any one knows how to delete the box, please let me know. As usual, technology is great when it works.

No. 14 The Big Surprise - Technorati

After looking under PLYMC 2.0 in Technocarti, I found that YPL has listings in Technocarti. Some of the blogs are listed individually, duplicatey being one of them. As it is, all of the blogs are shown because PLYMC Learning 2.0 is listed on Technorati. I've linked it to the right under Everything in the Known Universe. It's almost scary when the first sentence you see is "Everything that is known about duplicatey." Thought this would be a good way to keep tabs on what is appearing in the electronic universe.

No. 13 Delicious???

After a half hour of going through these lists, I have a headache. I guess if a person had hours on their hands and were intensely interested in a subject, it would be worthwhile. First a person has to have sites. Each site has to be viewed individually. It was easy to set-up. I now have two extra links on my computer. Tagging was okay, but it doesn't take the place of cataloging. Still seems to be a jumble. One link is http://del.icio.us/ktaetwins The other link is Retirement Plans are Delicious.

No. 12 Oh! Rollyo! Where are you?

Well, it took the help of two cats on this one. Setting up the account was easy. Making the search roll was great. Getting it on the blog was something else. The easiest way was to go to customize on the blog and then "add a page element." Tried the link on Rollyo and it wouldn't go. Anyway, the Rollyo link on my blog is Call My Bookie. Mike was honored with "Mikey's Tips" because he stayed with me the entire time I worked (and I mean worked) on this. It's great the way a subject can be typed in and searched simultaneously on the listed search engines.

No. 11 part 2

I had help for this. When I first looked at it, I couldn't figure out where to paste it. I asked the cat and he helped. What it looks like on the blog is amazing.

No. 11 LibraryThing

LibraryThing was very straight forward. Amazon.com came up many times when it was searching for titles. I guess if a person has alot of time, they could "Chat" to other people who have similiar interests. Personally, I have my own system that works even if the electricity for the computer is off. No. 10 My other duplicates.

I had help with this entry. It was entered at home from the home computer. I e-mailed the picture from the library to home because I needed help and thought the time involved might become lenghty. I used the Generator Blog. On the Generator Blog I found redkid, which had bunches of listings. The url is http://www.redkid.net/generator/ Hours could be spent going through all the generators. The url for this specific picture is http://www.redkid.net/generator/star/newsign.php?lin. I also liked the airplane. Another point, click on the terms of agreement button so everything goes through. This is serious fun.

No. 9 Searching for knowledge

Syndic8.com and Technorati were very straightforward. I added a variety of library blogs and news feeds. Of all the ways to add a blog or feed, copying and pasting worked for me. Sometimes the RSS button was in unique places. Now all I need is the time to read all the "news" and "opinions" that are constantly coming my way.

No. 8 RSS Feeds

RSS feeds were challenging at times. But once the "Dawn of Enlightenment" occurred, it was easy and went fast. My public URL is http://www.bloglines.com/public/duplicatey. If anyone else is having troubles finding the Share button, scroll down to the bottom of the list. It is the last button. The example and the home page of my bloglines didn't match. "All's well that ends well."

No. 7 Flickr

I finally found the photos on Flickr. It would take hours to explore it. It would also be very useful for reports. Posting to the blog was easy. In reading other people's blogs in PLMC Discovering learning 2.0, it's nice to know that other people need to learn this too. My other technology comment is, I don't know what I'm going to do with all these accounts when I'm finished. Too bad there can't be one general account. Thanks to those who have helped me.

My one set of duplicates aren't this wild, but they're just as cute. This was found under cats in the "search everyone's photos" listing. I also explored the Flickr Color Fields site which had a multitude of different photos in different colors.

Nos. 1 & 2 Beginnings

1. Glad to have this opportunity to play and learn about the 23 Things that are part of Learning 2.0. It will be interesting to see if I ever use them in real life and if I ever need to help my kids use them.



2. The easiest habit for me is "play," which I don't get to do enough. The hardest habit is to "view problems as challenges" because situations can become frustrating.
